JUAN SORIANO

Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on August 18, 1920 is known as “The Mozart of Painting. From a young age, he demonstrated a great interest and aptitude for artistic creation and was considered a child prodigy. 

His work is distinguished by a personal style based in lyricism and a restlessness which leads to a constant searching.
Soriano experimented with a myriad of different materials, genres and styles, even dabbling in abstract art as well as costume design and theater sets. At the age of fourteen he showed in his first collective exhibition while working with artist Francisco Rodriguez. Juan Soriano’s work has been exhibited across Mexico, the U.S and Europe. In 2004, he founded the Fundación Juan Soriano and Marek Keller with his partner. 

Juan Soriano is known as one of the most famous artists in Mexican history and has various institutions and awards named after him, such as Galeria Juan Soriano of Centro Nacional de las Artes and the Juan Soriano Sculpting Prize founded
in 2012. He has received numerous awards and recognition for his work both during his lifelong career as well as after his passing on February 10, 2006.
