MAXIMINO JAVIER
Maximino Javier was born in the National Valley of Oaxaca in 1948. He began his artistic career self-taught, although he later completed his studies at the Oaxaca School of Fine Arts.
He was one of the founding members of the Rufino Tamayo Plastic Arts Workshop. He is an artist with great recognition for his experience and mastery of various techniques such as engraving, oil, bronze sculpture and ceramics.
His concern for enriching his artistic vocabulary has led him to travel constantly to see the work of other artists, which is reflected in the evolution of his work. He experiments with textures and color, looking for new ways to add to his language.
His work reflects Latin American traditions, representing local landscapes and characters, where we see recurring motifs such as the countryside and music. His themes revolve around the relationship of the human being with nature and with himself, with themes ranging from the legendary to the popular.
Sometimes he represents scenes taken from traditional culture, in others the artist simply freely interprets the stories of Latin American culture, creating a symbolic imaginary of his own.
Since 1978 he has had multiple exhibitions both in Oaxaca and in other cities in Mexico, in France, Spain and the United States.
