Rosario Guillermo (1952, Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico) is a painter and sculptor from Mexico. Her sense of tectonic organization comes from her training as a ceramic sculptor. Guillermo transforms her ideas into symbolic icons that transgress tradition. In her work she uses various materials and aesthetic images of the environment.

Her success is to have found a true language to express herself through ceramics. In her sculptures you can see her preference for this art, which combines with other elements such as clay and other Mexican materials due to its scarcity for several centuries by the conquistadors.

As a child drawing was the passion of Guillermo, but nowadays sculpting is her greatest challenge, obsession and delight.

“I was always a figurative artist until I found the abstract sculpture – that meant a challenge for me, so I left the drawing as a sport practice to create my own language: The abstract. I also realized that the figure was not a problem, the problem was to abstract the figure”. – Rosario Guillermo

“Tradition and present, are a kind of dialogue between the archaic and the modern, as well as geometry – line of force that, startled, straight or curved, trace solid. And, nevertheless, uncertain forms: sculptures, ceramics, inexhaustible objects; the perpetual becoming trapped in fragments forged in solitude”. – Rosario Guillermo
